For this project we were assigned to create a piece of art inspired by something from the Nor t h Car olina art museum's gallery. Sadie was doing art with string and b racelets and I thought that was pretty cool so I decided to take part in the creati on. The art from the mus e um that inspired this was called Beaded Crown (Adé), a crown cr ea ted from cloth and thread. I really like the feel of this crown, it feels very historic and looks like it has a history of it's own. I prefer this type of art over modern art some times and the art piece really spoke to me. This crown inspired the use of the string, thread, and beads to create an original piece. I mainly made only bracelets for this project, but after all the bracelets were made they were put on a frame. In the last picture below is one of the bracelets in progress as well as the type of string it was made out of. The center picture is of the bracelets beginning to be stapled onto the frame. This is a very colorful piece of art that used various types and thicknesses of string to complete. This is the final piece, all of the bracelets have been stapled onto the frame and Mr. Sands gave it proper lighting to look professional
Our table as a whole decided to destroy our collaborative project for this unit. Instead of actually destroying the pizza, we kind of only ruined what it looked like. To accomplish this we poured a bunch of red paint on the pizza to act as the tomato sauce. We went to the library to use the shredder and shredded up some white and yellow paper to look like cheese and then dumped it on the pizza to make it look like a real pizza. It looked very nice until it dried and no cheese stuck to my slice. Originally there was a slice missing but we filled it in with a blank piece of styrofoam since it was going to get covered in paint and paper anyway. The pizza was finally finished a couple of days ago. My piece was the one made out of pencils. I chose pencils because they are usually yellow or orange which looks kind of like cheese, and since this was a pizza, it usually has cheese on it. I used rubber cement to keep the pencils sturdy and to make sure they do not fall off of the slice. The final product shows a slice of everyone's imagination and personality. Our idea for this art project is to collectively make one giant pizza. The group is just everyone sitting at our table and each person will make one slice of pizza with the last piece being made by everyone at the table since there are 7 people and 8 slices. For my piece I will be using pencils to cover the slice since pencils are yellow and so is cheese. I also might cut off the erasers from the pencils and put them on top of the slice to look like little pieces of sausage or something like that.I had to decide what to do for my artists solve problems art piece and I had a bunch of q-tips lying around so I decided I would use those. At first I had thought I could buy a Styrofoam sphere and fill that with q-tips and paint them to look like the Earth but then I decided to make a pizza using this Styrofoam circle. After filling up the whole circle with the q-tips it looked more like a cake rather than a pizza, so there was a change of plans and that is what I did. I chose a material limitation for this because most of the things I do are pencil drawings so I had decided to switch things up a little. The main obstacle was having the patience to put in all of those q-tips. It took over an hour and my hands were definitely hurting a little bit when it was complete. I did have a source of inspiration and then combined it with my own unique idea at a later point. I was unsure as to what I was going to do at first so I was browsing the internet looking for some inspiration and someone had stuck a bunch of q-tips into a Styrofoam ball and put a blue light in the middle of it which looked really cool and gave me the Earth idea. The q-tips on the cake are meant to look like icing and I painted the Styrofoam disc brown to make it look like a chocolate cake. I also had to make sure when I lit the candles that the q-tips would not catch fire and burn down the house. The word I chose for this weeks illustration Friday was the word trouble. When I saw the list of words I wasn't sure what I would draw until I saw the word trouble. Immediately I thought of my friend, as well as classmate, Zane. Attached here is a picture of Zane I took while walking to get some materials he needed for his "Artists solve problems" unit project. I told him to smile for the camera and he proceeded to perform a rude gesture towards the camera. I kept the picture anyway because I thought it may come in handy one day and it is a good thing I did because he fits perfectly into the category of trouble. This was only a very quick sketch I did because I was pressed for time.During the task party I was assigned many random tasks that I had to complete and my favorite by far was making myself a third arm. I completed this problem by asking the people around me to help craft some of the pieces and then fit them together to form the arm. My final project for my limitation will be to craft a sculpture or figure out of tape. This is a material limitation as I am to only use duct tape and nothing else. Only using duct tape is a difficult task and causes the problem of duct tape sticking to everything. My final piece should turn out as a figure made of duct tape, not very big but not too small at the same time.Stealing and copying are different in their own ways. When someone is stealing something they are taking what is not theirs, and may be calling it their own. While copying is just a replication of someone else's artwork. My character remix project was combining two Nintendo characters and forming them into one. I started off with a drawing of Kirby and added some features of different characters to create a remix of the original. For my final project I did Barraccolli Obama, a mix of Barrack Obama and a piece of broccoli. This artwork was created because it was a good idea that my table came up with and I wanted to make it and bring it to life.
When I was assigned this project I was unsure on what I was going to do. Then, after a few days into the project, I remembered this was about observations. I looked in front of me to see, on the table, a ruler. I observed the ruler and decided I would draw it as a 1:1 scale. This was a challenge for me because there were so many lines I had to draw so precisely, but I took this challenge head on. I started by first tracing the ruler, then drawing the inches lines, one inch apart. Next I would have to draw the centimeter lines, I put my ruler next to the ruler, and drew the lines. I repeated this process with all the lines on the ruler. I noticed the drawing looked very flat and two dimensional, so I shaded in the ruler where shading was necessary.
